Inspired by Herbert Bayer's“towards a universal type”1925
“but why do we write and print with two alphabets? a large and a small sign are not necessary for one sound. we do not speak a capital A and a small a.”-Herbert Bayer
Herbert later applied the Bauhaus principle “form ever follows function"-Louis Sullivan. In the book“towards a Universal Type,” Bayer mentions people gave up on gothic fonts since they're too “decorative”and the legibility becomes an issue. By establishing“the universal typeface,”Bayer solves this problem. With that in mind, I would deduce that as times pass, people want the letters to be“cleaner,”so I tried to take away parts of the letters. Maybe now people will think,“This is so hard to read,” but it's just reading habits, and that can be easily changed.
